My name is Dominik Jakob Molitor and I am interested in many broader topic surrounding bioinformatics and molecular biology.
I was born in Bitburg near the luxembourgian-german border and went there to primary, middle and high School. After graduating in march of 2016, I moved to Tübingen, where I started to study theology for a year. Shortly after, I recognized that I was in the wrong field and started to pursue a scientific career. I began a biology bachelor degree in 2017, during which I focused on molecular biology and more specific developmental genetics in plant cells. At the ZMBP I have completed multiple courses and worked as a Hiwi (student assistant) for two semesters at the laboratory of Sabine Müller. At this lab I also wrote my bachelor thesis.
My work history is marked by flexibility: At the beginning of my last B. Sc. semester in 2020, I was forced to change the topic of my thesis to something that can be researched from home. So through happenstance I was pushed into the field of sequence and structure analysis and therefore, into the field of bioinformatics. This lead to a growing interest in this field. Since 2020 I study M. Sc. Bioinformatics in Tübingen.
In my second semester, my work at the lab changed to the maintenance and visualization of digital data. For this I created multiple supplementary codes and a finished application.
In between my third and forth M. Sc. semester I worked at Tesla Automation as a working student in the biotechnology department. During this time I was confronted with working on cloud services and machine learning with big data.
Currently I am doing my master thesis at the QBiC in Tübingen on the cell segmentation in histological images.
Outside of my work life I play for many years french horn. First I played in the junior music society in my hometown and ever since my visit of the university, in the trombone band of Rottenburg. Although the french horn is my favorite instrument, I also played tenor horn and trumpets, whenever necessary.
During my Middle and High School time I was heavily involved in the Rollenspiel AG involved. There I was an active member between 2009 and 2016. After 2013 I was also a designated group leader. During that time, I helped organize events and take care of small groups of younger club members.
I was active in the youth organization JuSo for many years. For the last two years I tutored math and sciences for school children from primary up to high school in the university group LeHrnen. Since August 2022 I am one of the four committee members
